GapPlate Recipes Privacy Policy

Last updated: 26 October 2026

This policy describes how the GapPlate Recipes website (the Recipes Market Place at gapplate.com/recipes, “the website,” “we,” “our”) handles information. The GapPlate app has its own GapPlate Privacy Policy.

Browsing recipes

You can search, read, print and share recipes without an account and without giving us any personal information. Searches and the recipes you open are not linked to you.

Adding a recipe

When you add a recipe, from the website or from an app, we receive:

  • the recipe name, ingredients and amounts, steps, cooked weight and an optional link;
  • your name, only if you enter one and agree to show it with the recipe;
  • your email address.

A new or changed recipe is published soon after it is sent. The recipe is then public, with your name if you agreed to show it. “About you” text and links you add on My recipes are also public, soon after you add them.

Asking us to design a recipe

When you use “Design a recipe for me”, we receive your email address and your answers: what you would like, what it must suit, the meal, and any optional choices, including up to two health goals to focus on (for example Heart Health). We use the goals only to choose ingredients; they are never shown with the recipe. We keep your answers until your recipe is ready, or until we find we can’t make it, and then delete them. The recipe is published in the Recipes Market Place for everyone, without your name or email, and we email you its link.

Your email address

Your email is never shown on the website and never shared or sold. We use it only to:

  • confirm it is yours, the first time you share a recipe (the recipe waits until you click the link in our email);
  • tell you when a food or recipe you asked for, or a recipe you asked us to design, is ready, or why we couldn’t add it (at most one email a day, with everything for that day);
  • ask you about a request, if we need to;
  • let you sign in to My recipes, with a link we email you, to hide, show or delete your recipes.

We don’t send you other emails about your recipes. A recipe you share is live soon after it is sent.

Cookies and spam protection

Signing in to My recipes sets a cookie that keeps you signed in for a week. To stop spam, we keep a scrambled (one-way) form of your internet address for up to two days and limit how many recipes, recipe designs and sign-in emails can be sent. If you tick a “Suitable for” choice on the Recipes list, a cookie on your device remembers it for a year, so it stays ticked on your next visit. The recipe pages do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

We count how many times each recipe page is viewed, how often recipe badges are shown on other websites, and how many visits come from links we share (for example in an email). These are only totals per day. They use no cookies and keep nothing about you, not even your internet address.

The “Save to Pinterest” and Google Play buttons are plain links: the recipe pages load no Pinterest or Google code, and nothing is sent to them unless you click. A Google Play link only tells Google that you came from gapplate.com and which kind of page (for example vegan recipes), nothing about you.

Where your information is stored

Recipes and contributor details are stored on our website, which is run by our hosting provider in secure data centres.

Recipes in the apps

Recipes shared on the website may be included in the built-in library of the GapPlate and EatAlyze apps (see the GapPlate Terms and Conditions, section 11). Only the recipe is included, never your email.

Nutrition and AI

Nutrition shown for a recipe is an estimate worked out from its ingredients, and some values may come from AI. AI can make mistakes. Recipes are not checked for accuracy or safety, so check the ingredients against your own allergies and diet, and talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian before making health decisions.

Your choices

You can hide, show or delete your recipes yourself on My recipes. To delete everything at once, choose Delete my recipes and details on My recipes: it deletes your recipes, your About you and links, and takes your email off any food or recipe requests, straight away. A recipe that someone else has used in their own recipe stays, without your name or link, as “… recipe” (for example “Boiled rice recipe”); we keep your email with it, never shown, only as the record of who allowed us to publish it. See Deleting your data.

Children

The website is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13: you must be 13 or over to share a recipe, ask us to add a food or a recipe, or ask us to design one. If you are 13 to 17, do these only with a parent or guardian’s consent. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
